Anyone here wok in communications or journalism? |
I just graduated college with a BA in English, concentration in communications and minor in journalism, and I have professional experience in communications, writing, and journalism. But I have been ALL OVER the net looking for a job with no luck! Monster, HotJobs, CareerBuilders, JournalismJobs, JournalismUSA, state and federal government websites ... I've checked them all and more, and I must have applied for easily over 250 jobs ... locally, nationally, and internationally. Nothing!!! I need a job QUICKLY! Anyone here working in communications/journalism (prefereably in Ohio, but not limited to) that can offer some quick advice? Try Public Relations Society of America. Go to your local papers and offer to intern. Look into any of the major companies and look into their marketing department. I think Proctor & Gamble is based in Ohio, isn't it? Also, law firms are always in need of good writers. Check with Jones Day -- they are based in Cleveland. You can also go to a temporary agency and ask them to place you in a secretarial position; you will really get some good writing and editing experience there. Best of luck! That's how I started out. I graduated with an English degree with a minor in art history (real cash cow there LOL). I ended up working as a secretary, teacher, journalist and writer. Then I went to law school and practiced for a while. Now I am in internet marketing for a large law firm. Best of luck!! you won't find a journalism job without PUBLISHED clips of your work. you didn't say whether or not you had that, but just saying. if you were smart you would have those clips. college newspaper is where i work. |
