Parents...how much does your childs school push state testing? |
I just trying to get a feel for how much other states/districts push state testing also called standard assessment. Do you think its pushed more since the implementation of No Child Left Behind. I am wondering because my district seems to really focus on it big time, even to the point of pressuring the kids that if they dont do well the federal government will take over the school and the teachers will lose thier jobs. It seems they study all year in prep for this exam. So what are your expereinces with state testing in your district? I am a high school senior in Florida. I am very happy that I no longer have to take the FCAT, but our school pushed FCAT practice like it was the most important thing in the world. Teachers taught to the FCAT, and nothing more--I feel my education was cheated because I only learned FCAT skills. This No Child Left Behind is horrible for students who want to attend college because it does not prepare them for college, it gets them through high school. Teachers are overpressured to teach to the FCAT, and honestly it is often not their faults if the kids do not pass, it is that the kids have no motivation to pass. I believe the No Child Left Behind policy is actually, No Child Get Ahead. I have had horrible experiences with state testing in my district. I am so sick of it. |
