What can the Federal government create more of by declaring war on it?

I can think of several possible answers: poverty, crime, drugs, terror...etc. War, as it turns out is a fairly effective way to kill people, but is pretty much useless as a means of defeating social ills or unpopular ideologies. When the Federal government declares war on something it's the average citizens cue to sit back, shut up and let the government do it's job. What happens when the military industrial complex and rich, powerful private contractors have a large vested interest in the "wars" continuation? Should we push for a Federal war on peace? Perhaps then we could be assured that it would always exsist somewhere.

The federal government's 15 year war on escalating healthcare and tuition costs have coincided perfectly with an unprecendented 15 year escalation in healthcare and tuition costs. So that's my answer.

Terrorism is another good choice. I tend to think that drugs are different, and it really depends on the type of drug, the user, the culture as to if the government causes an increase or decrease. I tend to think they affect no change overall in illicit drug use, but look at the rate of increase in big pharma drugs - most of which are more dangerous than say marijuana. And the notion that legalizing drugs increases usage is propoganda. What prohibiting them does is increase crime, jail populations, and reduces quality control.

1984.

War is Peace.

Freedom is Slavery.

Ignorance is Strength.

AS with every thing else you metioned It would do no good.............
Just cost us more money by raising our taxes......
Keep big brother out of my pocket!!!!!!!!!!

This is the Cheney- Halliburton (and Brown) link that is making our politicians rich while our naive soldiers think they are fighting for a (good) cause.

The wars on crime and drugs may not have stopped crime or drugs entirely, but there's still probably less crime and drugs now than there would be if we didn't have a war on them. Look at the Amsterdam. They legalized drugs there, and now there are tons of them.

The war on terror hasn't been won yet, but I think it can be if we give it time.
