Is there a way to pay for college that doesn't include Federal Plus Loans or a why to switch the debt to me |
hey Im 20 years old in i took some time off of school to find a job and help pay the monthly fee's for the Plus loans. and were far from rich but not super poor. i just don't feel rite put this debt on my mom and i was wondering is there a way to put it in my name or can i get some other loan to pay off her side of the loan. I really appreciate any advice any one can provide. the college i going to is west wood college and basically what they told me was that i was a dependent on my mom until i was 24 and that i need that federal plus loan. so if anyone know anything that can help again i will be very much appreciative. thank you and have a bless day You can choose to pay off the plus loans, but they must remain in her name--they are only for parents. The problem isthat the federal government, as well as the government of most states, consider it a parent's responsibility to pay for a child's education. This often causes problems--say, if a parent absolutely refuses to help at all, but the school/government say that the parent has to, the child may have no choice but to wait until they are 24+ to go to school. I am not going to go into all the drama that I am going through because of how I financed my useless electronics education, but I do understand how frustrating it is to be responsible for a sum of money that you cannot easily repay. What I would recommend is to avoid taking out too many loans because you will be hounded for decades and your economy could be ruined by the lender and guarantor agency even though you are doing your best to pay what needs to be paid when/how/where it needs to be paid. If you have a job, you are doing better than me. Hang on to that job and set money aside to pay the tuition for a semester of classes. Work a semester, study a semester . . . wash, rinse, repeat that until you are finished with college. Paid employment (unless you have some rich relatives or can develop and avail some other income engines) is your best bet for financing post-secondary education. Good luck to you!!! |
