Best job for a vet?

Trying to get other ideas on what federal job people think would be good for somone with a associates in criminal justice, combat veteran, and has 3 years army infantry experience. A job where I carry a gun. Also try to be realistic, thanks for any answers.

Well ex jag, its because I want a non-boring job. Carrying a gun means possible danger. Thats why I joined infantry and loved it. Hated the way it was ran though. Thanks for the ?

In addition to FBI, CIA, police, etc., also try Defense Criminal Investigative Service, Defense Security Cooperation Agency, Justice Department, Treasury Department, Homeland Security. Most federal agencies have a veterans preference in hiring, as well as many state agencies.

If you continue to work for government (whether state or federal), your military service and your civil service combine when computing time for retirement purposes, as I'm sure you know.

Why do you want a job where you carry a gun?

FBI,CIA,police.all love ex service personal.the training and discipline is done for them.good luck

if you want to apply as a special agent in FBI and CIA, you should have BA/BS degree.
since you like to work with a gun, i can think about to join police department in SWAT team, gang unit...etc. they are pretty tough and busy!
one of my battle buddy is ex-infantry, he is applying in Oakland PD. he will get extra point for vet preferences though!

With an associates degree,

Your pretty much limited to some police forces and sheriffs offices.

Federal law enforement, all require atleast a BS degree.

If you live near a military post,

The guards are now mostly civilians.

Fort Campbell civilian guards start out at $15.15 an hour.

The Guards for TF-160 nighthawks area, make more than that.

Both NYC and LA Police departments are actively recruiting veterans right now.

Ross Perots company has an active veterans hiring program.

They hire you as security guards, good pay, and then help you attend college while working to get your degree.

You can also look at the Department of Energy, if you have a top secret security clearance.

They have guards, to guard shippments of nuclear material around the country.

They pay pretty good also.

My father had a hard transition after he got out after 22 years.

He actually found that being a guard at the state prison worked out well for him.

He still had a weapon. He still had a formal structure. The pace was a little slower then his time in the Infantry and that helped him wind down to full retirement. He liked the state pen better because it was little more dangerous since Federal Prisions are mostly white collar crimes.

Plus, his military service time counted toward his pension, he got to pay double into his 401k for each year in the military. So he only had to work at the prision half the time to get a full pension from them.

Mailman or postal worker for the PC people! They can still go postal!

Bureau of Prisons(BoP) CIA, FBI, ICE,Border Patrol are all great careers once you get in one the sky is the limit

Try the State Department and Department of Defense. Sometimes they have security job openings that they give you training and send you to different embassies and stuff. You get to carry a weapon.

Go to USA Jobs and Look at Job series 0083 (Police Officer) there are usually quite a few nationwide.

i would say get down with FBI SWAT or srt forgot which one its called or the air force office of special investigations they have a antiterrisom corp which deploys all over the world they provide security investigate crimes track down AWOL airman other some things if you like the whole bounty hunter tracking down bad guys thing the U.S marshall would be cool thats what im going to do and if you join O.S.I the Fbi and Cia Us marshal Secret service border patrol atf and any other federal agency you can think of get almost half of there new guys from there so it would be really easy to get a job from tehre and you dont have to join the air force to do osi google afosi you'll learn alot
