Engineering Internships or Summer Jobs with little-no experience?

I'm currently a freshman student enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering Tech. Degree. Next year I'm going into Civil Engineering at a different University.

My question is: Do engineering summer internships exist for students will practically no experience?

NOTE: I don't necessarily need to find a specific one just yet, but I would like to know if there are at least some out there. I would love to find something in Civil, but Mechanical is fine also. Even if I have to do menial things such as pushing papers or acting as a secretary in an Engineering plant, I wouldn't mind.

I've taken at the end of this semester: Intro to CAD (basic AutoCAD & AutoDesk Inventor), Intro to Engineering Tech., and Manufacuring Processes.

There are plenty of internship opportunities in engineering fields; and since they are "internships" the company knows that you'll have little or no experience.
Depending on where you live (and factors like: the size of the town, how much construction is going on, how many students typically look for summer internships) you may have a good shot at finding something without even having to travel and find alternate living arrangements for the summer.
If there are certain companies that you鈥檙e particularly interested in working for let their HR departments know. If you know somebody that works there you may be even better off asking them if there are any internships or summer temp jobs that they know of.
I set my internships up with the help of my school. A lot of times companies who are looking for a temp will contact a local school in the area who trains people with the skill set they are looking for. It's worth checking with your registrar or admissions office to see if they've gotten any job listings.

Also - it's a long shot, but sometimes works out - check local job postings or online classifieds to see if any one is advertising openings for interns OR entry level. Occasionally an intern may be taken on if entry level positions are not being snatched up. Interns very often go on to work for a company they interned at, so it's good for the company and for you.

Don't be intimidated by the size of a company - big companies are more likely to be able to take on several interns than smaller family run companies. Small companies sometimes feel like taking on interns helps the community, so they sometimes have openings too.

With the classes you've taken you may also qualify for internships in a drafting department of an engineering company; perhaps not your final goal, but it could be a foot in the door if you hit dead ends otherwise.

If you're near Houston and interested in Energy, Oil & Gas; ConocoPhillips has a rather large summer internship program. They may be done accepting applicants for the 2007 program, but it doesn't hurt to check.

Good luck!
my comments just its up to u

I'm a civil engineer, and I think the best route to go is by going to your county engineer's office. Many times, they offer summer internships, even for kids who just graduated high school and are thinking about going into civil. Another route to go is check all of the engineering and surveying companies around by you. Some of them are more than willing to catch beginning students, so that they can mold you by their standards.
haha sounded like me once. i when for mechanical eng. and looked for an intership through a local jvs carrer center and they placed me in architecture. that last 4 months then they got it right and placed me in a sheet metal fab shop. your community colleges offer local jobs often and the jvs do good luck
