I feel really trapped in my mathematical engineering job, but I really love to write. Career change? |
I'm very good at electrical engineering, and both write the manuals for our small company and do extensive R&D. It's not the money, I make good cash, but what I'va always loved is writing myself and studying literature (very different from computer programming and rigid mathematical theory). My current job pays the bills, including my child support, but I know it isn't what I "love" to do. The extensive work overtime and travel and unhappiness with my job have led me to some excessive drinking, loss of girlfriends, etc. Just wondering if others think it might be time to "follow my heart" and deal with the consequences? Yes, it's time to "follow your heart"! You must do what you like, no mater what. We have only one life and we must not waste it. It's time to be happy and to feel well with your self. But first, you sould check up if you're really gifted. If not, you can keep this passion as a hobby, at least while you're improving your style. Anyway, you souldn't ignore a this kind of passion. This could be your chance of a life indeed happy, a chance that your dreams came true. ok, before you jump into a huge career change like that. why don't you start writin as a hobby? like when you're doin all that travel (if you're not drivin yourself) sit and write whatever comes to mind. do the literary reaserch on the side when you have some down time and wanna relax. writers more often then not live a very poor lifestyle and you have your children to think bout. not tryin to sound like a b*tch bout it. but you wanna make sure you're children are supported right? not everyone can have a hit with the first novel like rowling did with harry potter. so for now just do it as a hobby, and when you feel you have somethin really good take it to a publishin company and see what they say. you never, you just might have that hit book floatin round in your brain:-) You only get onc chance at life so find something you love to do and get paid to do it. Good luck! Well if u love 2 write try writing something 4 the news paper,or better write a story 4 the paper. Just an idea :) just start small because you dont want to quit your job just to find out your not making enough money writing you dont want to be a starving artist like myself, juts follow your heart but avoid being broke |
