What is the best Engineering career to pursue? (civil?)? |
ive been leaning toward civil for a long time...is this one of the better engineering jobs or are there much better. please give brief description of other engineering jobs that are good or if civil is the best Job wise "software engineer' or computer sciene or electronics are the most hip fields today. They offer the highest salary and growth prospects. "civil engg" no longer pays that high salaries on average. However you can earn a lot in any profession dependig on how good you are compared to the rest. You must choose your career or engg discipline based n your interest and skills. Below link gives the descrpition of different enginering disciplines and what kind of work they do Source(s): http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos027.htm... Oh geez, I always remember the sign at the possum lodge university. Mechanical engineers design bombs Civil engineers design targets Electrical Engineers wait for the other two to quit arguing so they can get it wired to work. Take a look at the length of time these guys stay on the job. and the pay differences. usually more pay means more headaches in this field I don't know what you mean by "best." You should consider the best field by balancing your personal interest in it with the pay, job outlook and security of that field. I can tell you that civil is a steady field, but not among the highest paying. There is a lot of responsibility and engineering ethics involved with civil engineering, as you are directly responsible for the structures you design to hold up and not cause any injuries. Electrical and computer are two steady, growing fields with top pay. It's going to be a long time before we move away from computers and electricity. Mechanical is a very broad field and leads to many other fields. It's steady but not the highest paying field. As more and more devices are being simulated and realized through computers and electronics, the field is losing some of its steam. Nanotechnology is a new and innovative field that could be seeing a lot of new jobs. However, it is among the most difficult. As nanotechnology starts to develop, these engineers will be getting very big bucks. Petroleum engineers are still highly paid, but as nations are desperately searching for alternative sources of energy, it may not be a smart field to get into. Systems and Industrial engineers work higher up and control more of the processes. The job outlook is good for these engineers, but many companies prefer to promote engineers from specific fields to system engineers over hiring a new systems engineer with little experience. There are many other fields, but those are among the broadest. It is up to you to decide, because you are the one who study. When selecting a combination in studies, one has to select the his favorite subject, where he feel comfortable and sure of completing with flying colors, select a subject where he is strong. If you are sure about Civil, then go for Civil only. It was your long term dream, you wanted to achieve in this subject. Do not ask others suggestions. If you do well , certainly you are going to get a decent job. Good luck. Civil Engineering is definitely a more "practical" engineering. By that, I mean larger scale, and you can see the results. With the emphasis on construction, Civil Engineers are in high demand currently. If this is your things, then by all means, go for it. civil engineering is probably your best choice. from civil engineering you could go and specialize in either environmental, sanitary or structural engineering. civil engineering is a very important field or area of work and it will probably remain so for a long time. |
