Why do crappy jobs use engineer as a euphemism?

I agree with you. Us train drivers are fed up.
Well, I don't necessarily take umbrage when someone is called a "sanitary engineer" or a "building engineer". What I DO resent is having my opinion as an engineer dismissed as alarmist, or unfounded.
