How far in advance of graduation should I apply for a job in Mechanical Engineering? |
I graduate in December 2006. When should I apply for jobs? It would be best if you could find a summer job or internship that is related to mechanical engineering, as that could already give you an "in" with that company. Hence, your search starts right now. But your potential employers would also prefer to see some related work experience outside of your design classes, so even if your summer employer can't offer you a job, you'll be ahead of the game. But for work starting in January, you should definitely get serious about applying for jobs starting in September. Be sure to make use of all the services your college has to offer. Have your resume ready, and start going to the career fairs on your campus. You could even start researching companies you're interested in right now. ASAP. It couldn't hurt to have a few jobs lined up. A mechanical engineer with a job->me |
