Most companys require a college certificate before they will hire someone for an engineering position. While in school studying for your degree, you may find a intern position at a local company however.
Some engineering firms will hire assistants to their engineers and call them associate engineers. A degree may not be required for an associate engineer but the person doing that job will get alot of tedious work that the company doesn't want the engineer wasting his time doing. They don't get paid as well as the engineer does either.
