Which is better-Mechanical or solar energy engineering??? |
Hi all Does anyone have any idea which of two following engineering is better in terms of job prospect in 'Australia' and also which is the more difficult-Mechanical engineering OR photovoltaic&solar energy engineering. I have to choose among one of them to study really soon, and is really hard to decide PS-I am doing my engineering degree at UNSW Hello, I'm finishing my mechanical engineering degree very soon. What the mechanical engineering degree gives you is lots of options. You can go just about anywhere. I've never actually heard of solar power as an engineering discipline; however, I'm guessing that as far as jobs go, you should be able to get a solar power engineering job with a mechanical engineering degree, but not necessarily get your average mechanical engineering job with a solar power engineering degree. Mechanical Engineering covers a very broad range of topics. Everything from basic statics and dynamics to advanced thermodymanics, fluid mechanics, materials science, advanced mathematics, and even finite element analysis etc. So yes, it is quite challenging. Whether or not it is difficult is up to you. Like I said, Mechanical is very broad, Solar seems quite specialized. I guess you should ask yourself, do I really want to specialize this early in my career? This choice is up to you, but options sure are nice to have. go mechanical ... your life is pretty much screwed if solar goes nowhere, but if you do mechanical you can always go solar anytime ... if you are really stuck, i would recommend minoring in solar (if it's available) or electric engineering, which is where solar is based from majored in aerospace, but work dealing mainly with electric engineering ... was in a similar quagmire a few years back, but no worries now :) mechanical Mechanical Engineering is very universal and very practical!! I think you should go for it...Many people will hire you with that degree and there's more jobs for it. Solar Engineering is still developing same with Biomedical Engineering...so i wouldn't go for any of them until I know they have a direction/future. good luck! |
