How many jobs in computer software engineering are available nationally? locally (SEATTLE, WA area)?

That figure wefts and warps.

Seattle is certainly one of the centers of the software industry as well as San Mateo County and Santa Clara County in northern California -- aka Silicon Valley.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the US Department of Commerce would have figures on this. Especially would the HR Offices of the computer companies themselves have these accountancies. There are over 1,500 career websites and numerous staffing agencies. Some focused on the software industry will have these figures as well.

And there is the good ol' standby for source information -- the internet.
