I have a question regarding gaining employment.?

I am currently seeking employment. I have a limited amount of work experience and gaps in my resume. I am registered with many job search engines-including Yahoo! HotJobs. All of these job boards offer professional resume writing for a fee. Two questions: One, should I have my resume professionally done?; and two, what is a good price to pay for such a service? I would especially like to hear from people who have used an online service to get professional resumes and employment about their experiences.

Limited work experience and gaps could be an issue if not handled properly, so I think it's wise you are considering a professional service.

Yahoo, Monster, and many others provide resume writing for HUGE fees, and I've put a link to my blog post about this very topic. If I were you, I would absolutely not go with them. You won't get a better resume out of it - you'll only continue to fund their advertising, big payroll, fancy offices, and event sponsorships.

The prices vary widely from $38 to at least $338. Some companies will charge you more or less, depending on whether you are a student just entering the work force or an executive. I, personally, don't think that's very fair, so I charge a flat fee (the lowest one I've seen, by the way!). I never thought it made sense to charge someone, who obviously needs a job, a ridiculous amount of money for something to help them find a job, so they can make money. :)

I have also included a link to a letter written by a client, so you can see his impression of professional resume writing / job seeker services.

Good luck, and I hope you end up with a great resume! If you'd like to have me take a look at what you have so far and give you an estimate on how long it would take to have a completed resume, just let me know - it usually takes 24-48 hours. (helptohire@yahoo.com or ginger@helptohire.net)

First question, what type of job are you looking for?

If it is an entry level, (Manufacturing, Service, Etc.) Go to your state employment office and apply, look in the paper under employment, go and put in an application in person.

If it is a professional, managerial, or technical position a resume is needed.

Go to Goggle and look up "resume writing". You will get some good examples. Just make certain your resume is accurate.

You could go to the library, there are books to show you how to make a resume for the specific field to which you are looking to gain employment.
