Are There Employment Opportunities for ADHD Specialists?

I am interested in helping people with ADD and ADHD. Are there centers in schools and universities that specialize in this? Shouldn't this be a growing field with more and more people being prescribed Adderall or do most people limit their treatment to just taking their meds?

It sounds as though you are interested in working as a behavioral therapist in which one may need a master's degree in either psychology or social work and be trained as an ABA (applied behavioral analyst). There may be more entry level jobs as a 1-1 instructional aide or teacher's aide in the public schools or perhaps at a private school that specializes in children with special needs. Wishing you the best of luck! It really takes a special individual to have the patience and dedication to work with those with ADD and ADHD.

For more general career info: www.bls.gov/oco and type into search 'social worker', 'therapist' or such.

I don't know exactly where you live but here in WV there are opportunities. And at WVSCTC they'd love to hear from someone with that specialty in the behavioral health program. I'm in the behavioral health field and I'd say yes there are opportunities especially at grade schools they need all the help they can get not only with ADD and ADHD but new styles of learning to get children excited and involved in learning. As we talk in class my understanding is that YES this is a growing field so if you have a passion for this you should persue it. www.wvsctc.edu Take a look at the catalog and look at the requirements for community behavioral health degree.

There should be , contact mental health professionals in your area, they should be able to help
