Phsychology EXPERTS!!!?

After college, i want to set up a phsychologist office in my area. SORT OF LIKE A PRIVATE SELF EMPLOYMENT and just be a physchologist that TALKS to people about their problems without doing any MEDICAL WORK LIKE TESTING PATIENTS FOR PROBLEMS WITH MACHINE/ETC NOT THAT I JUST WANT TO SORT OF "COUNCIL" THEM.

*I need to know if the "private office" thing is ok after i get my Ph.D and other degrees or will the government now allow it. Is that legal setting up a private psychology office for self-employment with possibly a secretary or is that against a law.

*How long would it take in college + med school to FINALLY START MY JOB IN YEARS?

*What's type of psychologist JUST COUNCILS PATIENTS and not DO MEDICAL STUDIES,ETC??

Yes, you are correct, you will need either a Ph.D. or Psy.D. to call yourself a psychologist. You will also need a license, issued by the state. To obtain a license, you usually have to attend 4 years of undergraduate schooling, 4 years of graduate school at an APA accredited school, 1 year full-time internship, and 1 year of supervised postdoctoral work. So, from start to finish, plan on spending 10 years.
Having a private practice, as long as you are independently licensed is not against the law. Just as long as you pay your taxes and practice ethically.
Once you are in private practice, you can specialize in whatever you want. So, if you just want to do counseling and therapy with no testing, you are free to make that choice. However, to become a psychologist, you will likely need to study either clinical or counseling psychology.

G'day mate,
yes private rooms is fine for a practising psychologist.

I'm not sure how long it will take ' you to get your degree' depends on how well you can do the studies. I would give yourself three to five years.
All psychologists counsel they do not do any medical intervention as they do not have a medical phd. So no medicines.. only a psychiatrist can do medical intervention that includes medication.

Guy before me covered about everything; in retrospect, to get to that level, it'll will take a lot of work. What you're doing is exactly what I want to do!!! I want to start my own office, just to talk to people about their problems. Sometimes, that can be so much better then any kind of medication!! I wish you luck!!
