Find the biggest law school near you and call them. They very often run a legal clinic. You will get good help there, because the student lawyers are guided by professors. You pay nothing if you're really broke, a sliding scale, very reasonable amount if you're not.

Legal Aid only takes certain kinds of cases. But you can try them.

Also, if you were discriminated against on the basis of your religion, you might try the ACLU as well.

Before any of the above people will take your case, you've got to document it as fully as possible and get ready to "pitch" it, both over the phone and in an interview. In a sense, you have to "sell" the case to the lawyers--present a sound argument that you have a case.

The other option would be to find a fairly young, hungry lawyer, who is convinced you have an excellent case, with a good chance of returning monentary damages. Such a person might take your case on contingency or partial contingency. So you might pay nothing, or you might pay an initial fee of $1000 to $1500, with no hourly billing after that; the latter is partial contingency.

The lawyer would pursue it and hope to win a settlement, collecting a healthy fee and recovering costs from that settlement. You might still come out with a good chunk of change.

So hit the phone and try all those avenues. I'll bet, if you've got a good case, you'll get somewhere.
