Does anyone know any examples of sexual orientation discrimination when it comes to interviews/employment? |
i need to back up a question i have with examples, the question mentions a gay man not being offered an interview as he is gay 'The Advocate' wouldn't hire me because of my orientation. I'm suing them now for discrimination. so called 'manly' jobs like builders! Most of the time it's more subtle. Example from my own life: I'm not certain about interviews, however in 35 + states here in the US a person can be fired just for being lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered. As a matter of fact about six months ago in Largo,FL a transgendered individual was fired from his position as a city planner...a position he had held for 25 years...simply because he wanted to transiton to female. They could ask you about marriage, lifestyles, anything they could even ask if you bat for the same team as them? They could even look at your appearance. I was at an agency the other day and over heard things like "you need to dress appropriate" which is understandable but that is your choice as long as it is all decent... right? It depends on the company and state honestly. I live in MIssouri and there are several companies that specifically state in the new hire book, that discrimination because of sexual orientation is against company policy and you can be terminated. Please cutie ... there are many gay builders and even "str8" builders who indulge in homosexual activities. I was given the interview..but was discreetly told afterward that I didn't get it...when I asked 'why'--I was told "did you really think someone in your situation would get it"....it was an airline job.....I was by far the most qualified.... no-one knows you are gay unless you tell them. your whole premise is out to lunch. |
