Should the law allow discrimination IF鈥??

PHOENIX 鈥?Arizona
http://www.azstarnet.com/allheadlines/21...

Rep. Tom Prezelski, D-Tucson, and two other Democrats have introduced
a bill would expand a state law that now forbids workplace
discrimination on the basis of gender.
"Some legislators are continuing to support discrimination," Prezelski
said. "They don't think this is politically expedient."

The Democratic bill, proposed for consideration during the
Legislature's 2008 session, includes a provision that religious
organizations could use sexual orientation and gender identity or
expression as criteria for employment as long as the job is directly
related to religious functions.
The stipulation was included to assuage the concerns of religious
groups, Prezelski said.
"They have certain beliefs and we shouldn't trample on them," he said.

In my opinion鈥?this law is the same as attempting to pass a law requiring equal treatment of African-Americans鈥?Unless you are a member of the Southern Baptist church.

Short answer is no discrimination period.

I think it's an employers right to hire who he would like to work for him by any criteria he chooses. After all- he's the man writing the checks.

If I want a job- I'd better be willing to do the kind of work and present the kind of image my employer wants - or go home
Period

Curious about the proposal - it states "sexual orientation" and "gender identity or expression"... does it also include "religion"?

For example - I'm Pagan. According to the beliefs of some Christians, I'm evil and going to Hell. Should they be allowed to discriminate against hiring me because I'm Pagan, or is it just that they have problems with "those yucky gays"?

I'd hope that if someone's personal beliefs and lifestyle were in conflict with a religious organization's teachings, then they'd be smart enough not to apply at said religious organization in the first place.

Why would you want to tie yourself for 40 hours a week to a place that you won't be happy in? Money is only good for so much.

listen, everyone has rights including religious groups first amendment rights to freedom of religion, speech expression etc. If it's related to their religious functions then it's Constitutionally OK. See http://archives.cnn.com/2000/LAW/06/28/s...

Your question and comments are quited biased. First this nation , does not believe that "all people are equal". We believe that all people are equal before the law.

I cannot play for the NFL, nor should the NFL be required to go through the motions of interviewing a 61kg 1.68m female.

People should be allowed to work whereever they can find a mutual agreement on skills and compensation. You employer should hire you because of your skills at the offered task. Your religion, your sexual behavior, your politics, are yours and should not be display or advertised at the employers place of business.

I work at home --- but when I must go to a client I dress very conservatively. I expect that from others.

Males should not be forces (or allowed) to work at Hooters or at Victoria Secrets.
