Probation period in employment contract - what's normal after an interrnal move? |
I've been with my current employer for about eighteen months. When I started, I had a three-month probation period in my contract, as is usual in the UK. I obviously passed this period successfully otherwise I wouldn't still be there! Michelle - no, it was never mentioned at all during the interview stage, and in fact even now we have never had a verbal discussion about it. I only found out when I received my new contract and it was in there. yes it is and if you don't do well you go back to the previous position. its usually 13 weeks trial. the company i work for has this, it also says in this time if ur not happy with the job or the company aren't happy with ur work u go back to ur old potsition Depending on the Organisation. Yes indeed this is normal in UK. I have not heard of anything like that before. I have had a couple of internal moves where I work, and there has never been any question of another probationary period. Once you have passed probation, you've passed... Yes certainly - The company I work for has a 6 month probabtion period and my last one had 9 months. It is standard procedure to have a probatio period - nothing to be concerned about. Yes, we do that in our Company. It means that if you are rubbish in your new job, they can either move you or get rid of you entirely. They are more likely to keep you as they obviously think you are good which is why you were promoted. Its a get out clause for both employer and employee. In my last company I moved jobs within the same Department. I did NOT have to do an additional probationary period for the new job. And 2 colleagues moved to different departments, and they did NOT have to an additional probationary period either. not usual but employers can do this when someone gets promoted. |
