When filling out an application for a job,What does a consumers report have to do with employment??

In MY eyes, not a damn thing! But employers are doing it nowadays to see how good your credit is to determine whether you'll be a good fit for the company. In other words, if you have some negative items on your report, they're going to look at it as a turn-off. Why? I don't know, but this is a practice that must be stopped! Because how the hell is a company going to determine whether or not my credit rating is good enough to work at a particular place? It's ludicrous! If that were the case, then the greater majority of America would be out of work right now!

I understand doing a background check for your work history and to see if you have any felonies, misdemeanors, or cases pending against you. But to do a credit check to determine whether or not you're right for the job is totally classless, useless, and tasteless! You can have the WORST credit and be a damn good employee. You can have the BEST credit and be a terrible employee!

It gives the prospective employer insight on your credit history. Many industries like banks and other insititutions that deal with money, want to know the risk of hiring someone who has (for instance) filed bankruptcy. Those people generally have a higher rate of stealing etc. Sounds judgemental and presumptious, but it's true.

If your job involves the public and money, they will want to see if you have a good credit history.

If your job involves travel of any kind, you will often need to pay the expense, submit them for reimbursement and then pay the credit card bill. It's not unusual in a high travel job to be waiting on $10,000 of expenses. (I always paid the bills on time so my credit history wouldn't suffer, but it can be hard if the reimbursement is slow.) I've seen people get fired because they couldn't handle their credit cards.

It's to check how respnsible you are. If you have a lot of late payments or such, then you're not very responsible with money and therefore may not do well at your job. I disagree with this logic, but that's the logic.
