My friend has lied on his CV about previous employment, will he get found out?

He has had lots of jobs, and doesn't want the employers to think that he just goes from job to job. Will an employment agency easily find out that he has extended the truth on his CV?

They usually never check, unless it sounds too unrealistic. but if he behaves confident and information is believable - nobody ever checks. they could ask you for reference letters from previous employment - but it's your choice to choose which ex-employers could be contacted for such references. And even if they ask for someone to give you a reference - in my whole career (7 years) I only had 2 occasions when they called my chosen ex-employers for reference. Just don't exxagerrate too much. Most of the CV's on the market aare "engineered" :-)

Nah people do it all the time, they only get caught if he stolen something or lied about a degree. If they do a background check yeah maybe, but it's your friend not you. You just want to say "I told you so"?

they will more than likely check out the job that he had and ask how long he was there. he could get away with it

Only if he has said he can do something he cant or if he has lied about grades or ref's and they check.

I'd be very surprised if the agency bothered to do much research! I think many many people stretch the truth in their CV's, and everyone knows this!

As an employer, I usually ask their permission to ring up the last couple of jobs as a reference.

If they refuse me to call, I would ask them why, and it may well come out.

It just depends on hw thorough the interviewer is - a liar like that wouldn't easily get past me!

it's 40:60 chance but it will be had to find if he covers his tracks well

Most likely not. Many human resources dept do not even check up on qualifications. If he has left out some jobs, even if they check they are unlikely to find out what's missing. It might be easier to find him out if he added in non-existent jobs with firms they can phone.

Probably not.

The new P45 may put an end to that soon, as it will show length of time and was employed as what plus last salary, and all the P45 change over points like a running total so then it can be matched to the CV. the employment agency will ask for this under new rules about to start. more dogooders what happened to free Enterprise

possibly, depends how sincere he is and what job hes applying for, personally im dreading the day someone asks me to play guitar, its been on my cv for the last 17 years that im learning to play, by rights i should now be the next Hendrix

He may get found out when asked questions in an interview.

Yes - You get caught with the employer when your previous reocrds don't match with the National Insurance,.
