Why is it so hard to get a job in Singapore?

I came from a very good and reputable college in the Philippines. I do admit I lack work experience so technically I fall under the "entry level". I hold a Bachelor's degree. I've sent out my resume to various employment agencies last week and I haven't gotten a reply from any agency at all. How long does it take for these agencies to respond?

Though your degree is one of the things they are looking in your resume, but what they value more is your working experience.
One more thing, our qualifications is not recognised in Singapore. This is what I learnt when i arrived here.
They will really look more into your working experience and is it related to the job you are looking for.
Also, there are other applicants that they are looking at and if they have working experience overseas, the more chances they will get in.

But dont lose hope and you said you just sent out your resume last week. Normally, it takes about a month for them to sort out thousands of applications and narrow them into the candidates they find best. And just in case, you havent receive their call in a long time. Its best that you try to get more work experience to capture the interest of your prospect employer.

What my suggestion is to go for ordinary job.(nurse.e.g)Later rapport & confidance build up then you may move on for talent or more challenging jobs.Hope this will helps you.

You have not indicated what kind of job you have applied for so it's a bit difficult to advise why you have not been able to get any jobs so far.

You've already made a good move by placing your resume with various agencies. In addition to them, you could also apply directly for jobs from the newspapers such as the Straits Times which usually has a bumper appointments section every Saturday.

Hang in there. The job situation in Singapore is still pretty bullish and remember, don't be too fussy too :)

there are jobs that prefers singaporeans and PR holders. there are so many applicants in the country from different countries, some even come to singapore as tourist to look for a job as walk in applcnt . there were evn some who went home with nothng happened in their applications.
