How Many Job Rejections Have YOU Had?

How many job rejections have YOU had? I have a file thick with them, and every time I get yet another damned knockback, I feel not only very depressed, but even physically sick.

I live on Merseyside - where there are THOUSANDS chasing each job - and I am now beginning to wonder if I have a future at all with all these job rejections. I can't even get a temp Christmas job here - that's how bad it is! And those employment agencies are just useless!

So what is YOUR world record then for amassed job rejections? Please let me know that I am not the only one suffering this job knock back misery!

A Demoralised Merseyside Job Hunter

I could wallpaper an entire house with all the rejections I have gotten. I also relocated to break into my career. It was a tough decision but has done very well for me in the long run.

NONE

None!

it depends what you mean by rejection.

If it's rejected after an interview, then none!

If it's rejection after handing in your CV/ Application form, then too many!

Not enough jobs in the country.

You always have to go through a pile of knockbacks before you get the right job. If I were you I would look carefully at your interview technique because chances are you are not coming across well enough. Remember that you need to be confident, dont sit looking disinterested and have a friendly manner.

When I was applying for jobs I had 3 knockbacks before finding one that I wanted and wanted me.

Countless. It DOES get depressing at times. I was in retail, so eventually learned the best time of the year to apply - around October when they were doing the bulk of holiday hiring - and was so good at my jobs, that they always kept me on....until I quit them sometimes years later. Sometimes it just boiled down to timing and your chosen profession. Good luck on the hunt!

As far as I can remember I have had one knock back due to a stupid recruitment centre where they do assessments and such, But in reality where I have had real interviews I have been successful. It is comes down to you being confident on the day and believing you are the best for the position. If you make a portfolio of your achievements that can help. Sometimes it may just be a sign that you are going for the wrong thing. Maybe work out what you really want to do then go for it.

Goodluck

I know how you feel - I was getting at least 3 rejection letters per week! But that was for middle and high school counseling jobs in the midwest and west (without being interviewed). I don't play the game correctly, and I refuse to give up my ethical code for a stupid job.

I had interviewed with colleges throughout the US and then was rejected due to lack of experience in higher ed (going on the start of my 3rd year). They like the fact that I'm creative and ethical at the same time. I just needed more experience.

You don't really say what your area is, but you might want to consider relocating.

Try not to get down on yourself - try to be proactive about your situation. What is it exactly that gets you rejected? Do you ask them to give you that information? Perhaps say, "What could I do better next time?" If they say your interview went really well, then you could run into my situation - not enough experience. If you're not even called to get an interview, you should really go to a local college and use their career services. They can check your resume/CV - maybe that's not set up to be the most eye-catching. All of the career services areas I've known always have big binders with job postings. So you could take a look at that, target some jobs, and then get help on your resumes for each job posting. It's a start.

Good luck!

3 Don't give up!

Try not to worry about it too much. Everyone gets knocked back. My boyfriend is currenty going through similar stuff and it is proving difficult to keep him motivated.

If you are getting interviews for these jobs then ask for feedback - and try not to let them fob you off with "the others had more experience". Ask them to be blunt - but of course you need to be prepared for negative comments then. Take it as constructive criticism and work on it for your next interview.

If you are getting knocked back before the interview stage, first of all, do you use a standard CV to apply for all jobs? If so, then stop that straight away. You HAVE to design your CV / application form for a specific vacancy. Use the job advert, job description and person specification to taylor you application. If they ask for someone who is a good multi-tasker (for example) then don't just say "I can multi-task". Give them an example of when you multi-task e.g. "my most recent role involved balancing time between answering telephone calls, responding to emails as well as prioritising other daily activities.

It's difficult to give you specific advice without knowing exactly what industry you are trying to get into and what your personal skills etc are. If you want any more advice get in touch, and I will gladly help.

Ive only had a couple of rejhections. Most jobs I've applied for I've gotten pretty easily. But I work in sales and if you can't sell yourself you'd not be worth hiring.

I've gotten far more jobs than I've been rejected by - I think maybe you should get someone who is on their A game to help you - I don't know what skills you have and what kind of employment you are seeking but perhaps it's your resume - maybe you need to do a mock interview with someone to go over interview techniques. . I used to be a recruiter, there are a ton of things we look at in making a determination -- maybe it's something you're doing, not doing, your resume. . get some help before you throw in the towel and give up. . could be something very simple to correct.
