Is there anything I can do? Please help!? |
Where I work at an optometrist office, employee turnover is a lot 5 in a year on average. Everytime they hire someone its someone without experience that doesn't seem to have long gevity in mind. Now they hired one of those to cut glasses which is a fairly technical job and if its messed up customer service goes down fast. I am so tired of training new people without any exp. Also, I recently became certified as an optical assitant, (my job title is receptionist). I offered to do the assitant job when needed until the new person learns the lab fully then, pass on additional tasks to her as she is ready. Makes sense right? Good for the patients and us. Well my bosses looked at me like I was nuts and sort of blew me off. I am really frustrated at the whole situation. I have been here going on two years but it appears my suggestions aren't valued nor is my willingness to take on extra responsibility. Any suggestions? welcome to the real world baby yes, shut up and get back to work. If I want extra work out of you I'll unzip my fly... got it. It seems you've discovered why employee turnover is so high in your office. Join the crowd, and find better employers. If you are not happy change your job, life is to short to take crap Yeah I understand, I have been in a similar situation at my previous job. They felt that I was only good in one area, and once they realized how good I was in that area, they refused to move me anywhere else. It felt to me like I was being held back from my full potential, and I kept watching them hire and fire more and more inexperienced people. I worked there for 3 years and was finally tired of it, so I quit, and got a better job where I can show off all of my skills and the new job pays more too. Funny thing is my old job has recently called me back wanting me to come to work part time to help out because they need me. See you don't realize what you have until it is gone. My suggestion is if you recently got a certificate to be an optical assistant, take your skills and go somewhere you can be appreciated and reach your full potential, as well as get paid more too. Good luck to you and have some faith and confidence in yourself in order to make the next step and move on. Maybe your boss hires these people so that he doesn't have to pay them as much as a qualified person. If i was you, I would start spreading my CV around the area and keep your eye out for another job. Good luck. |
