Does anyone else get aggravated when a cashier hands you your change on top of your receipt?

Do you get annoyed when cashiers are trained to hand you your change (bills & coins) with the receipt? I always have to hold up the line and pull the receipt out from under the change in order to get the money back in my purse or pocket. More often than not I manage to drop some coins in the process.

Why do businesses train their employees to handle money this way?

I hate holding up the line, but when the coins fall off the top of the "pile" before I can even move out of the way of the other shoppers it's embarassing and annoying. I keep my change purse open and ready to deposit the money there as soon as it is given to me, but the receipt just blows my little system *laugh*

I have also worked as a cashier and I always handed my customers their coins, bills, and then the receipt. That seemed to work best for everyone.

HATE IT!
When I worked as a cashier, I served the way I like to be served. I gave the change first then the dollars and receipt. Some people would actually be confused or agitated about it. But I always did it that way. You have to stand there longer to situate your money, which is aggrevating. Too much of the time they are giving you your change when you only have one hand available so you either have to walk out of the store with your money in one hand or stand there longer to try to deal with it, if they'd just put the change and then the bills it's just much easier to get it put away.

i hate that too! It's also another reason why I hate waiting for other people in the line and why I hate holding up the line! Especially when there are coins, it takes a while for you to separate the cash from the receipt and from the coins!
My tip: after you get your things, move to the side of the table and fix your stuff there so that you don't hold up the line.

I don't get annoyed by that, but I would get annoyed by someone holding up a long line at a register so they could reorganize their purse. Have some perspective.

Take your debit card wherever you go and you won't have that problem.

That would annoy me.We have a changer and lots of people forget their change unless we remind them.We give our receipt last.It isn't easy being a cashier. Many times we get a lot of grumpy customers that complain to us for something we can't do a thing about. What you could do is ask the cashier to put the receipt in the bag.

I think it is uncalled for the way they do it.

I myself also hate the way they do it. (putting the change on top of the receipt)

Do they make mistakes and it is a way to cover up the problems - Many customers do not look at the receipt when they do that.

The reason the cashier does that is probably because morons complain that they don't get the correct change or any change at all, whether they actually did get the change or didn't. Putting it on the white receipt makes it evident that you got the change.

Over half of all checkout delays (which I get all the time) are from customers who somehow manage to hold up the line.
Examples that annoy me:
1. Your kids running wild at checkout.
2. Answering the cell phone when in checkout process.
3. Bouncing your credit card.
4. Having the cashier run up your stuff for 3 other people--3 receipts instead of one.
5. Making the cashier check out an item by saying its on sale--when it's NOT.
6. Holding up the line to go back in the store and get another item.
7. Butting in front of someone in a line when you were not their first.

And the biggest annoyance is:
Stores that don't price items for checkout properly causing a bad scanner read.
