Why do managers have to concern themselves so much about employee motivation issues?

most of us have to work to make living - and a job is a central part of our lives and our identity as human beings. So why do managers have to concern themselves so much about employee motivation issues? please give examples

Because if employees aren't motivated to do their job, production will suffer. Ex: If you have a bad outlook about your job, you're going to care less about if you do a good job or not. Ex: I personally have low moral at work, hence, I sit on Y!A all day instead of being productive.

You are correct, most of us do have to work for a living. If we are not treated in a fair and humane manner, this is reflected in our work.

Our work effort translates to dollars for the equity holders (shareholders, owners, etc).

If we are happy, understand why we are doing something, etc. theoretically we will work smarter translating to more $$ GDP.

It鈥檚 the managers job to, among other things, get the most productivity and dedication from the employees. (You may not like that, but that鈥檚 the way it is.) Not everyone (as in most) is 100% self motivated 100% of the time. We all need to be jumpstarted occasionally.

Also, well motivated people are generally happier in their jobs and more likely to get along with other associates.

if you don't motivate the employees and develop them then you get fired. movitating the staff is one of the functions of basic management. it's most important because it impacts productivity which has direct impact on the bottom line of the biz. perhaps you would find training for management and leadership helpful

Money is not a motivator. It makes people unhappy if they don't think that they are paid enough.
More is accomplished with people that care about their job and are working for the work and not the money. If you have ever worked for a company that has those people, you would understand the difference. If you have motivated employees, they make each other better through questions and answers, through encouragement. Look at a football team. If you do not have motivated members, they don't care what the score is. They do their work only enough to keep on the team. You have a motivated team and they are encouraging other players that made great plays. They care about the score. Offensive members watch and encourage the defence, etc.
