Do you think it's ok?

I work at the front desk of a medical office and there is a patient that comes in that I would like to ask out. There is a lot of flirting between us when he comes in and I think there is definite chemistry. Would it be unethical to ask out a patient of my work? I am not treating him, and I checked our employee handbook and it says nothing about relationships with front desk employees and patients, it only mentions the employees that actually treat the patients. For some reason it just seems like something I shouldn't do but I also don't want to let this guy get away, he's exactly what I have been looking for. Please help.

I would like to clarify that I don't "look for it" at work. I have never dated anyone related to a job before, but I feel that there is something special about this person. He could be just the person I have been looking for, hence my dilemma.

if there is no rules about it at work and you feel there is chemistry, you would be stupid not to ask him out. Next time he comes in and you are flirting and having a conversation suggest finishin the conversation over coffee sometime.

just do it
..!!!

It would be unethical for ANYONE working in such a personal field as medical to date a patient. The hand book assumes that as a front desk employee you are aware you are still an employee.

Your instincts are already telling you to not do it. You said it in your post.

If that doesn't help, just imagine what it would be like if a relationship was able to start and A) went into the gutter, or B) turned into a stalker, victim situation because of where you were.

Avoid this way of looking for dates. Drop in on a few happy hours if you are old enough...There are too many people on this planet, in your city to date without having to resort to 'looking' at work.
