60 day evaluation - Am I getting fired? Something doesn't add up?

Trying to make a very long story short - So I found out through accident that I am getting a 60 day evaluation. I am a new employee (been here 60 days) and was told at the start of my employment that the firm gave reviews after your 90 days was completed. Thought 60 day review was odd, since in my 10 years experience as a Legal Assistant, I have never worked for a firm that did 60 day review.

I asked HR if they gave 60 or 90 day evaluations. They never responded back to me. So then I asked my direct supervisor. He told at first 90 days then 1 hour later told me 60 days. I told him to just be upfront with me, if there was an underlying issue, I would rather not have it disguised as a "60 day" evaluation. He said "no" but I am not convinced, since other, more tenured, employee's here told me they got 90 day evalutions.

So do you think policy has changed to 60 days, or are they just disguising it as "60 day evaluation" because of underlying issue they want to confront me with?

Thanks for all your answers. I have no issue with getting a 60 day evaluation. However, I am the type of person the feels that if there is an issue, just tell me. I am thick skinned. No need to go through the formality of having an evaluation. You can tell me what I am doing wrong, add that you talked to me to my file, and it would have the same effect as doing this "60 day evaluation". I don't like mysteries or being lied to. Just be upfront and honest. I think there is an issue with someone whom is very high maintenance to work for, but I would rather it be addressed then have to go through this crap. It's like the giant pink elephant in the room. Just come out with it already.

Probably policy change - but you'll know for sure after the meeting.

If you have been doing your job, and doing it well - then you shouldn't worry.

Sounds like you have some concern over that - could it be guilt?

they probably changed policy, if u facqed up good they would've dragged you in already and gave you your papers, theres a little bit of paranoia in your writing so if your messin about you may want to stop, free office supplies aint that great

Maybe it's a 60 day to give you a heads up so you can correct any problems before the official 90 day. Are you having problems that might be cause for concern?

you could be doing so well that they want to put in a better position. If there is an underlying problem they may just want to discuss it with you so that you can change whatever it may be. Do you think you are doing the best job you can do? If so, don't fret it, If there are areas you know you need improvement on, be honest with yourself, make a list and tackle them. They've already invested 60 days into training you in their ways, it's unlikely that they would throw that away, if there was something that wasn't working out. Just be honest with yourself and go into the evaluation and see what they have to say. IMHO

you know weather your doing a good job

They may have issues and will give 30 days to comply; if your satsified that your doing ok dont worry

Hate to make you paranoid but you may be right! Something doesn't add up! That said....you may not have anything to worry about...if you feel that you work has been satisfactory and/or you have been following all their general office guidelines (i.e., breaks, personal telephone calls, appropriate attire). You can also look at it this way...if there is an issue with your work, it would be best to know it right now so you can make adjustments and not 30 days later....if it's not working out for them, it's not going to work out for you and the next 30 days would be better spent looking for another job....also "life is not fair" so just "keep on keeping on"!

I don't think they are "disguising" anything. Yes, they probably want to confront you about something and they want to do it formally, so that it is in your employment record. That way, if the situation hasn't improved in 30 days, they can give you a 90 day review. Then if they tell you that things aren't working out and you're fired, you can't act like "Oh, what a shock, I didn't see this coming."

The reason companies have 90 day evaluation periods is so that they can evaluate you before you get added to insurance, qualify for unemployment, etc. They can also pretty much fire you without worrying about discrimination claims, etc.

Sounds to me like they are covering their bases. That doesn't mean that you are doomed to be fired. Listen to what is said in your evaluation and try to improve on the areas discussed.

The evaluation is just the term for a "session" that addresses the employee, which is policy for a manager to follow, about employment... good or bad.

Just lets them have a peice of paper or computer file with a date of when they gave you the"Talk", so they can prove they did something.

The meetings i have seen from superiors that are managers only, have been jokes. Just a way to close the door and avoid everyone. Not all mind you, but I have seen it a lot, with different companies.

Don't fret you'll find out soon enough if your working or not.
