My boss...?

Our department is growing and he is trying to figure out how to account for every minute of what our employee's do on a daily basis. And its hard to do that when he doesnt set that example. I have suggested daily musters or quarterly evaluations, but he feels like he's micromanaging. He has suggested that everyone turn in a report every friday of what was done for that week, but I just don't think its going to work. Is there anymore suggestions or ideas that I can throw his way.

its kinda difficult to do a project status report because we are a Computer Department so we do things as they come in and fixing a pc isn't considered a project. and we have bought a program to log in all our work..what more do I need to prove that we are all working? there are some in our dept that make us look bad and we are a relaxed department.

Actually, I'm a professional and we do that with our manager. It's called a Weekly Status Report and it lists the major projects we have going on during the week and our priorities for the upcoming week. We also have a section for stuff we need help with and projects that are on hold.

It's nice, because it makes sure that we're all on the same page. Also, we all have a standing weekly meeting with the boss (1 hour) to discuss any projects, etc. We reserve an hour, but usually it's 30 minutes and some weeks we don't bother because there's nothing to discuss.

Good luck to your boss!

I sure hope to God that my work never does that!!!!! Actually I have a workbook that everyone is suppose to sign when they have work for me so I guess it's sort of like that.

Your job as the employee is to say "Yes, boss wonderful idea!" He's shown you that he has no interest in your ideas. Bide your time & enjoy your paycheck. You can't change the system.

Leave that chithole, no matter what the pay. That's the lamest thing I ever heard of. He's the manager let HIM keep track of every little thing you do.
