If you work as a web developer or designer, do you mostly work as a regular employee with benefits? Exactly, thats the main source of our income. Usually software companies hire us. To be general, both software developers and web developers are also hired by other than software companies. People need programmers for a variety of reason. Even when you're hired as an employee, usually you get personal projects which you can work on and make extra money. However I once worked for a company that prohibits such "outside work" and made me sign a contract. But in general its an acceptable behaviour. So yes, you are correct, mostly work as a regular employee with benefits. I am a cat, but my 'owner' works as an instructional designer for an e-learning company. However, he admits to making a bit of freelance money on the side. He highly recommends setting up your own 'concept' or portfolio site to show prospective employers I've done it both ways. |
