I AM THINKING ABOUT BEING A Pediatric Speech-Language TERPAIST WHAT EDUCATION IS NEEDED? |
I would just like general information on the job ,education needed ,and salary also information on Speech Pathologist Assistants how much they make and education needed. You will need a masters' degree in Speech-Language Pathology , including passing your University's comprehensive exams and the national board exam in speech-language pathology. During your first year of employment, you will complete a clinical fellowship year including supervision by a licensed, certified speech-language pathologist. Yearly dues to ASHA, the professional organization for speech-language pathologists, are around $200, and dues for state licensure may vary. In Arkansas, yearly state licensure dues are $80. You will complete at least 10-15 hours per year of continuing education. I have enjoyed most of my years in the profession, but I cannot say that it has been lucrative, especially when I was working for a private, nonprofit organization. I make a much better salary in the public schools now with my 20 years experience. Legislators in many states are considering a salary supplement for public school speech language pathologists. I believe the most lucrative positions are in rehab, but I never cared to go that route, preferring more to work with the pediatric population. Lots to consider! Good luck with your decision.
