I work for the Chicago Board of Education. I had a job in a mostly Hispanic Elementary school.? |
After working at this school for six years, the principal, who is also Hispanic, tells me that he wants to hire a hispanic to take my place, even though I had much more credentials and education than my replacement did. Am I the only one that has experienced this form of reverse discrimination? Am I the only one that thinks it's just wrong to hire someone just because of their ethnicity instead of their credentials. What has gone wrong in a country that allows this kind of think to be the norm? After I was fired from this job, I called up other schools for a job, and they all said that they liked my credentials, but that they had to hire a hispanic because of a quota system the Board of Ed has. I feel so bitter about this. I spent so much time and money to become a highly qualified teacher, and then I can't get a job because I am not of the right ethnicity. I feel so bitter about this. I would have never become a teacher if I had known this sooner. I would also be more than upset by this reverse discrimination issue. Perhaps the area you are applying for jobs has become a "minority majority" area??? In that case, they NEED to hire Hispanic speaking teachers in order to best serve the children there. The children is what teaching is all about, remember. A move to another area/state might be in order to keep you happy teaching! It's most likely them and not you! Keep that in mind and do not give up if you feel you are a highly qualified educator! Our American children need you! No i would assume he is prejudice even thought you speak fluent spanish. it seems to be all about the color Talk to a lawyer. They cannot fire u on the basis of color, race, religion, gender or age. Once u talk to the lawyer then talk to your principal and lets see what he will say. I am not a white person but I support u on this. Seek legal representation. If your scenario is valid, it shouldn't be hard to find an attorney who would work for a percentage. Its time to step up or shut up. |
