Is there value to education besides future job prospects?

Is there value to education besides future job prospects?

Yes, there abosolutely is value. I never thought I would like college, but it has opened up my mind. The general ed courses admittedly are not worth the time wasted. but the courses in your major, really are valuable, even if they're in Spanish or History.
Going to school is worth it much more than the job. It stays with you and its part of your self worth. Feel good that you're educated, it says more about you than a job title or a paycheck.
Yes, it teaches you critical thinking skills, helps you form a more cohesive identity, and changes your perspective,
Yes! Education broadens your horizons and exposes you to many experiences that enrich your life in many ways. It builds your self esteem and self concept. It also builds interpersonal skills that allow you to interact with others in life. It is a time in which you grow and learn about yourself.
Of course there is. The pursuit of an education helps one develop many of the skills that are necessary to a successful life. Some of those skills include problem solving, meeting deadlines, reading, writing, and public speaking. There is also a social element to higher education which is important. In addition to classroom interaction, you generally have the opportunity to a social network through such things as fraternities and sororities which may last a lifetime. You also have opportunities to participate in athletics, music, theater, fine arts and community service. A good education really just makes you a better person, someone who is in a better position not only to have a good job to to make meaningful contributions to his or her family or community. Never squander an opportunity to improve your education. A good education will change your life for the better in so many different ways.
Education is something you will always have. It's a personal item, that no one can steal from you. (short of shock therapy)
Learning and earning a degree, will give you a sense of accomplishment. Besides regular job prospects, you'll have the availability to do something you'll love to do, instead of something that "pays the bills"
What are you going to say to your children when they say to you. " I don't have to go to college, YOU didn't "
Yes there is. As a historian, education is a form of learning from the past and passing on to the future. In medicine, learning allows us to take responsibility for our own health as well as providing the need and desire to research answers. In philosophy it encourages us to think and allows our minds to freely roam over millions of possible answers. In our simplistic lives, it gives us the tools we need to make informed choices, in politics, in making responsible choices, even in bettering our relationship. Never stop learning, for to stop learning is to die a slow death.
