Can we make cost of education in India cheap and affordable to the people. why and how.? |
In my openion the cost of any education, be it basic, graduation, PG or proffessional shall be such that Government can induct such a person at appropriate entry level. Once a time many of PGs', proffessional, and MBA's and other experts joined govrtnment in various caders like IAS. IPS IES etc., and we are reaping the fruits of that expertise. With present cost of these specialised training Govt. jobs (with their inherent responsibilities ) are ill affordable as entry level remunaration may not even compensate the cost such education to lead a decent living. How a doctor who spends about 13 to 20 lakhs for education can take up a job at 3lakhs p/a. and servive and pay back interest of his education loan etc. The effect is likely to show up in next 15 to 20 years. Education can be made cheaper but would that solve the problem? No..... The real problem is that of deficit rather than enormity. There is a serious lack of quality educational institutes in India where 'education' is imparted in the true sense of the word. Most of the time these so-called educational institutes have more to do with lagging schedules, strikes, student politics and so on. Among the government-owned or aided institutes,it is only in professional course-institues like IITs and IIMs that we find quality education. So, the onus falls on the private sector. And private sector is business, they'll want money.. You don't expect a private institute to be as cheap as a government-owned one. Also, there is a shortage of quality faculty in our institutes, and there are too less seats to cater to such a large student population. So, first things first, the most important thing to do is to improve the infrastructure. Set up more colleges, such that students have a choice when going for their courses, and that will lead to a competition between the educational institutes which will ultimately lead to a decrease in fees. Contact Poland and find out how they do this. As it is I feel that the cost of education in India is not costly. The education upto SSLC/SSC is almost free or negligible. Then comes higher education... there are reservation seats and merit seats with low expenditure and educational loan fecilities at easy terms are given. If any one feels that inspite of that he cannot afford ... well he should find out other line of life say business... self employment in various fields... No use of crying over anything which is not affordable. Self made Like any other commodity, education is costly becuase there is demand and potentiality for it. People take loans to study medicine and pay back these loans by earning illegally. If bank loans are given to poor students like in USA it may help. But no one will give loans for huge donations. There are various other problems like this ..eg:- Do you know ? there are MDs and MS' and MDS doctors who never step into a college but are registered as one of the teaching staff to get recognition. To lend their names on the roll board as staff they take Rs 15000- 25000 rupees.?per month. What will be the affect of such staff on students? in next 5 to 10 years? Certainly we can. Govt proposes, politicians disposes. Ban all reservations. Treat all the deserving students equally. Identify really economically weaker students, help them financially-get hold of tatas,birlas,infys,wipros,BigB... Kareem Lala Telgi and his conduit Bandicoots. Jantar Mantar |
