Am a recent grad with a 2.1 (social science subject). I want a career in Higher Education management and my strategy is to try get into this thru building exp in uni admin roles and work way up to more senior positions either within a school dept or central uni dept such as academic registry etc. I thought this would be a good strategy given that for the management roles you seem to need experience and knowledge which can only be developed working in a HE enviro at lower levels first. Have a few interviews coming up, for jobs that pay around 14, 000k, not my dream but part of the long term plan. At recent interviews for HE admin jobs they said my plans seemed realistic but tht i missed out on the jobs cos there was a similar candidate who had some exp in HE and so basically just keep trying! which i am.
Does anyone in HE admin or management recommend this as a good career for a grad, and is goin into admin and working up to management realistic? I live in UK!
