SCORE Education Job Interview?

Ah ! I'm so excited. I have my very first interview at a tutoring center, SCORE.

I am a senior in High School and I'm looking for some good tips to say in order to get a position as one of the tutors. Any expected questions ?

The woman told me to wear business casual. I'm planning to wear a plain light blue t-shirt and khakis. Is this ok ? Any tips about getting interviewd would be appreciated. Thanks !

Check out the big job boards (Monster, Careerbuilder, etc) they all have good interview preparation tips.

I would also suggest that you look for a shirt with a collar (even a polo is more professional than a t-shirt) Of course, a button up shirt & tie would be even more dressed up (and don't worry, you aren't likely to need to be THAT dressed up during work, but you want to look professional and serious for your interview!)

You want to be able to relate your experiences - you may have casually helped other students understand things? (that's tutoring!)

You may be very patient? (Do you have sisters and brothers so you know how to deal with a variety of ages?)

And, you want to be FRIENDLY and willing to learn. This is your first job, so no one expects you to know everything, but you must be willing to be told what to do.

Best of luck!

Congratulations on getting an interview! Remember to speak with confidence and it is always a good idea to become familiar with the place you are interviewing before getting there. If the place has a web site, that can be a good place to get information about the company. This will prepare you for the possible questions of: What do you know about our company? And why do you want to work for this company? I would also wear a collared shirt with a sports jacket if you have one. This will let them know that you are serious about the job. This is just my opinion. Good luck!

Allen K.
